how do you get to antarctica?

Four days of traveling!

I flew Dublin to Madrid to Buenos Aires. After an overnight stay I flew to Ushuaia, Argentina - the southernmost city in the world - Fin del mundo! The majority of trips to Antarctica leave from Ushuaia.

After another overnight we boarded Aurora Expeditions Greg Mortimer for a 2 day sailing to Antarctica.

Fortunately the ship was super comfortable and had everything we needed. The food was amazing, the cabins gorgeous with most having balconies and plenty of space to move around. But, what really set them apart was the incredibly friendly and personal staff of everyone on board.

All of this was super important as we crossed the Drake Passage - the most volatile body of water in the world. It is the point where the Pacific Ocean, South Sea and Atlantic Ocean all comes together. Some days it is Drake Lake calm and others it can be Drake Shake! We were fortunate that it was just above Drake Lake. No need to tie ourselves into bed.

Below is a video to give you a idea of getting to and arriving in Antarctica. It was a serene journey filled with adrenaline pumping moments!
